Reading is Wild opens it’s 12th year!

Students at four Metro Moncton grade schools are getting Wild for Reading. The Moncton Wildcats, Times & Transcript, RBC and School District 2 have recently launched the 12th annual Reading is Wild program.

This program is about encouraging reading and literacy and are aiming this year to bring the total number of books read over it’s 12 year history to 500,000. The total for the 11th year was 488, 419 books.

This year participating students are from Forest Glen School with 290 students in grades K-4, West Riverview School with 374 students in grades K-5, Dorchester Consolidated with 70 students in grades K-8 and Beaverbrook School with 143 students in grades K-8.

The goal for this year’s 5-week reading program is to read over 26,500 books; and they are well on their way!

Each participating student is given a ballot for each book read. One student from each school is selected as the Reader of the Week for showing an increased interest or an improvement in reading.

Students taking part in the program will also be guests of the Moncton Wildcats when they host the Halifax Mooseheads on the 28th of February at the Moncton Coliseum.
