MAINEiacs edge Wildcats 3-2 in shoot-outIt came down to a shoot-out and the Lewiston MAINEiacs won it 3-2 over the Moncton Wildcats on Friday night. Matt Eagles scored the only goal of the first period, a power-play marker at 17:29, Randy Cameron and Mark Barberio picked up assists. Lewiston jumped out to 2-1 lead before the 3 minute mark of the second period. Chris Tutalo scored from Stefano Giliati and Stefan Chaput at 1:06, then Marc Bourgeois from Tutalo at 2:49. The Wildcats tied in on Eagles second of the night and 24th of the year at 18:13 on a pass from Zach Sill. The third period and five minute overtime failed to produce a winner, so the two teams went to the shoot-out with Chaput scoring on Lewiston’s third try for the win. The MAINEiacs outshot the Wildcats 43-29; on the power-play Lewiston went 0 for 5 while Moncton was 1 for 8. The three stars wereMatt Eagles of the Wildcats, the first star, for his two goal effort, goalie Nicola Riopel got the nod as the second star while Chris Tatalo of Lewiston was star number three. The Wildcats meet the PEI Rocket on Sunday afternoon at 4 as the battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division continues.
